Colposcopy is a common procedure which is performed after an abnormal Pap smear for cervical examination. During colposcopy the cervix is visualized using speculum and under great magnification and with a light source we are looking for abnormal findings.
Sometimes colposcopy is used to evaluate certain symptoms such as bleeding after intercourse, persistent white discharge from the vagina.
The colposcopy lasts between 5 and 10 minutes and is absolutely painless.
